In any currency.
VAT or GST. Use 0 where tax is added on top, as in the US.
Number of purchases or renewals.
How it's calculated
- Tax in the price = price − price ÷ (1 + tax rate).
- Store fee = price before tax × fee rate.
- You keep = price before tax − store fee.
In many countries, such as the UK and those in the EU, the price on the store includes VAT, so the store removes the tax before it takes its fee. In the US, sales tax is added on top of the price, so use 0%.
The rates, checked on October 28, 2026

Questions
- Does Apple take 30% or 15%?
- 30% is the standard App Store commission. It's 15% in the App Store Small Business Program (you have to enroll, and your proceeds must stay under $1M USD in the calendar year), and 15% on auto-renewable subscriptions after a subscriber's first year of paid service.
- Does Google Play take 15% or 30%?
- 15% on your first $1M (USD) of earnings each year, once you enroll in the 15% service fee tier, and 15% on auto-renewing subscriptions at any revenue. Above $1M a year, other purchases pay 30%, or 25% from people who installed after Google's 2026 rollout in the US, UK, EEA, Australia and Japan.
- Is the fee taken from the price with tax?
- No. Where the price includes VAT or GST, the store removes the tax first and takes its fee from what's left. A €4.99 price in Germany, where VAT is 19%, leaves about €4.19 before the store's fee.
